2017 Ellie Mae Classic Updates
With the 2017 Ellie Mae Classic coming up in a few months, we caught up with Amy Zeller, tournament services manager, and Trish Gregovich, tournament director, from the PGA Tour to see how preparations are going. Learn more and get excited for this week-long tournament.
In general, how is planning and preparation for the Ellie Mae Classic going?
Tournament week is 17 weeks away and it’s GO TIME! We have welcomed HNS Sports as the tournament’s operational partner and are making significant changes to the spectator entrance, parking and operations village. HNS has experience in tournament operations at over 350 professional golf events including AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Web.com Tour DAP Championship in Cleveland, OH.
In working with the management team at TPC Stonebrae and the City of Hayward, we believe these changes will allow the tournament to smoothly welcome a greater fan base, provide excellent service to all who visit TPC Stonebrae during the week, while minimizing the impact the tournament has on the property.
What new additions to the 2017 Ellie Mae Classic are you most excited about?
We have two big initiatives this year. The first is to improve the fan experience by creating a new viewing platform on member Hole 7. We’ll run the beer for birdies program Thursday – Sunday and give fans a party atmosphere with the best views in the Bay Area.
The second initiative is to draw Bay Area star power to the tournament. In support of that goal, we are proud to announce the inaugural Celebrity Shootout on Tuesday, August 1st – an exciting new addition to tournament week. Bay Area sports teams and alumni will battle it out over a 5–hole shoot out to win $25K for their foundation or charity of choice. We have commitments from the Golden State Warriors, Oakland A’s, KNBR/SF Giants Alumni, San Jose Quakes, NFL Alumni, SF 49ers and the Legends of Sports. It should be a great event!
Obviously, we saw the profound impact Ellie Mae and the Warriors Foundation Partnerships had on 2016’s tournament. How will those partnerships further impact and/or improve 2017’s tournament?
We couldn’t ask for more engaged and supportive partners than Ellie Mae and the Warriors Community Foundation! Having a title partner allows you to invest in all aspects of the tournament. You can expect to see an improved fan experience, more marketing leading up to the tournament and the addition of key events (like the Celebrity Shoot Out) to provide a great experience once spectators arrive at TPC Stonebrae.
Having a respected brand (Ellie Mae was voted best places to work in 2016) as our title partner and the cherished Golden State Warriors Community Foundation as the tournaments main beneficiary also makes the event more attractive to sponsors. Our goal is to deliver meaningful charitable give-back and bring together the community in a way that celebrates the positivity and integrity held in the game of golf. We cannot reach this goal without the support of members, 350+ volunteers and sponsors.
In March, we hosted over 120 adults and kids at “Family Night” at the Warriors Practice Facility. Kids and adults got to participate in basketball clinics with Warriors Staff Members, hear from the Ellie Mae Classic Team, the Executive Team from Ellie Mae INC and the Warriors Community Foundation about the partnership and goals of the Tournament.
What are some upcoming pre-tournament events we should keep an eye out for?
First, we should all be cheering for Kevin Chappell and Si Woo Kim, previous Stonebrae Classic Champions, who are competing at the Masters this week. As we get into Spring, we’ll host a:
- Women’s event at TPC Stonebrae (shooting for April 25th – more to come)
- Member volunteer info night (May).
- Media Day is July 18th at TPC Stonebrae. Past champions and players will be in attendance.
- NCGA Junior Qualifier is June 27th at TPC Stonebrae. The champion of this event will receive an exemption into the Web.com Tour professional field.
How can Members and fans get involved with the Ellie Mae Classic this year?
There are a variety of ways to get involved.
- Volunteer – there are many fun committees and the EMC needs over 300 volunteers during tournament week to run the show
- Show off your home course – invite friends and family up for the tournament
- Get involved as a sponsor – http://www.elliemaeclassic.com/sponsorship/
We are looking for a Walking Scorer Captain to lead our walking scorer group. If you’re interested, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Player Housing is a great way to get to know our professionals. Our players spend months on the road and having a room to stay in near the course (anything within approx. 25 miles) is very helpful and appreciated. Interested? Please contact Player Housing Chair, Fabiana Lacerca-Allen at 510.913.0791 or email@example.com.
